100-plus people share 2 toilets at quarantine centre, alarming conditions highlighted

Singapore — Concerned about the hygiene situation at a Covid-19 quarantine centre in Ang Mo Kio, an individual alerted The Independent Singapore (TISG) that there were only two toilets for the more than 100 people said to be staying there. The person, who did not want to be named, said that a worker at their factory tested positive for Covid-19 after taking a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test. The Health Ministry then transferred the worker to the centre in  Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5. The individual also sent a photo of the meal provided, which appears to be a mixed rice with veggie portion. [caption id="attachment_393074" align="alignnone" width="1080"] Photo: From TISG reader[/caption] This is not the first time living conditions at an isolation facility for Covid-19 patients are highlighted on social media. “Today, I felt the gravity of my privilege, and deep shame for the blind eye I’ve turned to the discrimination so ingrained in my own country,” wrote  Min Chan on Facebook earlier this month. She highlighted the situation of a friend who was staying at a quarantine centre at Ang Mo Kio ITE facility. There was no lighting during the day, and the rooms were bare and filthy, she said. “The charade of cleanliness and sanitisation that weighs so heavily on F&B, fitness and retail businesses in Singapore does not exist in this government facility,” said Ms Chan.
